4D/ 3N ORANGUTANS TOURS

ITINERARY


DAY I: PANGKALAN BUN AIRPORT - KUMAI - TANJUNG HARAPAN - HOUSEBOAT. (L,D)

You will meet your guide at Pangkalan Bun Airport, then transfer by car to Kumai. 



Transfer on board to a long-wooden riverboat called "Klotok" for a leisurely boat ride on the Sekonyer River. Best Enjoyed slowly!



Boating up to Sekonyer River and enjoy the wild-beauty of Tanjung Puting National Park with its nipah palm vegetation and wildlife.

It takes 2 hours from Kumai to reach Tanjung Harapan Camp.

Experience your first encounter with Orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) at Tanjung Harapan Camp by following the orangutans feeding at 3pm. 

The Camp was established in the late 70's for Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp.

Sit and enjoy seeing orangutan's behaviour, quietly.

NOTE: Please follow the park rules. Do not touch or disturb orangutans, NO photography flash, and keep silence when seeing the ex-captives orangutans.

At 4pm, back to the boat and continue the tour looking for Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) along the riverbanks. Proboscis monkeys are the endemic animal that can be seen ONLY in Borneo island. Dinner and Overnight on board.


DAY II: HOUSEBOAT - CAMP LEAKEY - HOUSEBOAT. (L,D)‎

After breakfast, travel up the Sekonyer River to Camp Leakey. Observe for wild orangutans and other wildlife along the river.

Camp Leakey is a research station established by the famous primatologist DR. BIRUTE M. F. GALDIKAS and her former husband, ROD BRINDAMOUR.

Enjoy the river trip on the way to Camp Leaky . It will pass the black water river which is full of wildlife such as birds, primates, fish, reptiles and also fresh water crocodiles/gharials (Tomistoma schlegelli).

Lunch will be served by our own cook with various type of Indonesian foods.

On arrival in Camp Leakey, walk up to the camp and visit the Orangutan Information Center. Here you could learn more about Orangutans Hierarchy, maternal lineage, and other wildlife. After that, proceed the tour by following orangutan feeding at 2 PM.

Enjoy your times till ±4 PM.

Back to the boat and ‎look for more proboscis monkeys roosting in trees on the river’s edge. 

Night walk(optional). Dinner and Overnight on board.


DAY III: HOUSEBOAT - PONDOK TANGGUI CAMP - SEKONYER RIVER VILLAGE - TANJUNG HARAPAN - PROBOSCIS MONKEY TOUR - FIREFLIES - HOUSEBOAT.

After breakfast, travel the Sekonyer River for an hour and reach Pondok Tanggui, a newly established Rehabilitation Center.

Walk through secondary forest to the feeding station and follow the orangutans feeding at 9 AM. Observe orangutans behaviour.

Field staff of Orangutan Foundation supplement the orangutans diet with sweet cow milk-powder and bananas. Back to the boat at 10am.

Visit the Sekonyer River Village located in the opposite of Tanjung Harapan Camp or an hour away from Pondok Tanggui.

The village was relocated from the national park side to the present site in the late 70's.

Walk around and get an insight of the villagers’ daily life. Have lunch on board.

At 3 pm, ‎follow orangutans feeding at Tanjung Harapan Camp for a second visit.

Back to the boat at 4pm to look more Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) roost in trees, find some wild orangutans nest at the top of trees, and enjoy the sunsets on the Sekonyer river. After the sun goes down, see the magical spectacle of Fireflies (Lampyridae) in Nypa palms trees.

Dinner and Overnight on board.


DAY IV: HOUSEBOAT - KUMAI - PANGKALAN BUN AIRPORT. (B,L)

After Breakfast, drifting down the Sekonyer River to Kumai and then return back to Pangkalan Bun airport for your next destination. TOUR END.

One of the Highlights visiting Tanjung Puting National Park is river cruising in The Sekonyer River while spotting Proboscis Monkeys and other wildlife in the late afternoon from the Klotok (Long-Wooden Boat).
